China may ban the use of "single pedal mode" in electric vehicles (EVs), according to hearsay. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently opened a public consultation on a mandatory national standard, "Technical Requirements for Passenger Vehicle Brake Systems and Experimental Methods", which involves changes in the conditions for the application of the brake function of the energy recovery function in new energy vehicles (NEVs). As such, some market participants expected that Tesla's (TSLA.US) 's EVs may face the ban.
Tesla, as quoted by Chinese media, responded that the above standard has not yet been formally promulgated and enforced. It believed that the standard will not affect the company's existing products and functions.
