<US Mkt>DJIA Ends 201 Pts Lower, Logging Worst Single-day Performance in May

The three major U.S. stock indexes settled lower after the Fed released the minutes of its May's meeting on Wednesday, which revealed that officials were worried about the lack of progress on inflation and that the central bank might not cut interest rates anytime soon, arousing market concerns about lingering high rates.

The DJIA closed down 201 pts, or 0.5%, at 39,671, charting the worst performance in May. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq failed to advance after setting records in the previous trading day. The S&P 500 ended 14 pts or 0.3% lower at 5,307, whereas the Nasdaq closed 31 pts or 0.2% lower at 16,801.

NVIDIA (NVDA.US)      edged down 0.5% at close ahead of its quarterly results release. Tesla (TSLA.US)      fell off 3.5% and Alphabet (GOOG.US)      lost 0.9% at close. Microsoft (MSFT.US)      and Meta (META.US)      lifted less than 1%. Amazon (AMZN.US)      was almost flat.
